Workforce Safety and Insurance - Bryan Klipfel, WSI Director

Mr. Klipfel’s presentation will address the following topics:

  1. WSI operates in a manner similar to any other insurance company, but is also an agency of the State of North Dakota. Each year sufficient premiums must be collected to pay anticipated claims and administrative costs. Costs must be equitably divided among all employers.
  2. When a worker gets injured at work, WSI provide wage replacement and medical benefits with the ultimate goal of getting that injured worker back to work. WSI receives the following common questions:
    1. When or workers get injured what will they be paid?
    2. It happened at work so it must be covered?
    3. It was pre-existing condition so it is not covered?
    4. I am so depressed, is that covered?
    5. The 24 hour filing prevents WSI’s $250 fine?
  3. Employees deserve a safe work environment and employers deserve to have healthy employees on the job. That’s why WSI is dedicated to “Putting Safety to Work”, ultimately making North Dakota workplaces some of the safest in the nation. WSI believes this is possible through loss control consultations, education and training, safety incentive programs, safety grants, and a continual focus on safety by employers and employees.

This program is approved for 1.0 general credits from HRCI
