Program Summary: 

This presentation will provide leaders specific and detailed information about their diverse workforce population and the value to knowing their backgrounds. This will include various communities of new Americans, their typical education levels, religious information, hygiene habits, clothing information, family life, communication styles, and how to manage a diverse workforce to be respectful and productive.

Tammy and Debbie will discuss potential challenges to be aware of and finally handling conflicts and conundrums in the workplace.

Learning Objectives:

  1. What is culture?
  2. Cultures in the workplace
  3. Discovering the benefits of a diverse workforce
  4. Learning the value of getting to know others’ background
  5. Holding people accountable for exhibiting positive and respectful behaviors

About the Speakers: 

Tammy Schatz is the Program Manager for Moorhead Adult Basic Education, a consortium that includes five sites in eight school districts. She has worked with New Americans for the past 17 years. She originates form a small town in northern Minnesota with almost no diversity, and currently resides in Moorhead with her husband and two sons. Other community involvement includes: NEW LDI committee, Youthbuild Advisory Board for RMCEP, and Chamber member.

Debbie Johnson is a Corporate Development and Training Instructor with Minnesota State Community and Technical College. Debbie works with organizations in the planning and delivery of training and development activities. She has worked in areas of needs assessments, team development, lean implementation and continuous process improvement. Debbie has extensive training in Lean Healthcare, Total Quality Transformation certification, Covey 7 Habits certification and a multitude of other seminars and workshops related to organizational training and development.

Non-members: Please register and submit payment one week prior to the meeting. $20 charge per meeting.
