Program Summary

   

Brad will discuss the advantages of having veterans in your work places, the strengths and maturity they bring to the table. He will talk about some of the barriers some veterans have to employment and resources there are in the community. Also, resources and support that employers who have veterans for they can utilize. Brad will give examples and information that can be useful in recruiting and retaining good veteran team members.

1. Veteran job seekers, why you should hire a veteran.

2. Veterans with disabilities and their barriers to employment, reasonable accommodations.

3. Hiring incentives/tax credits, partnership.




About the Speakers:

 

Brad Aune, Disabled Veterans’ Outreach Program Specialist at Job Service ND.

He works with transitioning service members, homeless Veterans and specializes with assisting disabled veterans overcome barriers to employment. He served 22 years in the military as an active duty Marine Corps Infantryman, and member of the North Dakota Army National Guard. He is a member of the FMWF Chamber Military Affairs Committee. Past Commander and current executive board member of the Fargo Legion Post #2. Current Commandant of the Red River Raiders Marine Corps League Detachment. A service connected Combat Disabled Veteran. Recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for his actions in Iraq leading 100 North Dakota Soldiers in combat as the Units First Sergeant.

Brad has uses his own experiences to assist Veterans successfully transition to civilian employment. After his active service, he used his GI Bill to attend Mayville State University achieving a Bachelors’ Degree in Social Science, 1993, Worked for 14 years as a Probation Officer with the Juvenile Court while serving in the ND Army National Guard. Deployed to Iraq for 18 months in 2004-2005. Transitioned back to his job. He has been employed with Job Service ND since 2009. He is a Volunteer Peer Mentor at the Fargo VA. Brad is the 2015 recipient of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) National Employment Service Award. He received the 2016 American Legion State and National award for veteran’s employment.

Brad is married to Brandi who works for Edward Jones and current Fargo School Board Member and they have three kids, Kyle attends MState, Alyssa attends MState and is currently serving in the ND Army National Guard and Hunter who is a junior at Fargo North. They enjoy Camping, Kayaking, and sports, especially Hockey.
